This is one of the area’s most notable historical attractions, boasting the world’s largest collection of diving helmets, dive suits, hand-operated air pumps, lights and other accessories. The Bauer family’s passion for diving history took them to every corner of the world. As their research grew, so did their collection of memorabilia and exhibits. The museum now has contributions from more than 30 countries.

The Upper Keys are full of colour and history and the Florida Keys History and Discovery Center is the place where many of the area’s most fascinating stories are told. That includes everything from hurricanes, pirates, shipwrecks, sunken treasure and even tales of vacationing movie stars.

Unlike some of the area’s smaller and more traditional museums, the History and Discovery Center boasts a state-of-the-art theater and interactive, eye-catching exhibits designed to entertain and enthral.

The Florida Keys have always appealed to artists, and Islamorada is no different. The best time to visit the district is on the evening of the third Thursday of each month, when there’s an Art Walk with live performances from musicians, local artists and craftspeople.

The Florida Keys Brewing Company is decorated in a colourful mosaic made up of thousands of bottle caps from breweries around the world, making it impossible to miss and the perfect place to sample a few local brews.

This exposed coral reef once served as a quarry for the construction of the extension of the Florida East Coast Railway. You can now enjoy self-guided nature trails through the mangrove hammocks and visit the environmental center which documents the history of the park and the region.
